Park Description
Jefferson County Parks are open to the public from sunrise to sunset.

North Beach is small, day use park located in a residential area with limited parking.

Please help this neighborhood remain peaceful by walking, biking, or carpooling.

While the park does contain portable toilets and a small shelter, it's not particularly attractive for reunions, parties, or gatherings due to the traffic, lack of restrooms, parking and privacy. HJ Carroll Park or Indian Island Park are better choice for an event; they have more space, an accessible restroom, and plenty of parking.

Help Keep North Beach Nice and Clean
North Beach Park receives limited maintenance. The North Beach Community picks up the garbage, removes debris, and does trimming. County staff mow when possible. Fort Worden State Park staff monitor park usage and remove the garbage. Please help keep this wonderful and busy location clean by removing your own garbage, picking up garbage when you see it, and cleaning up after your dog. If you are interested in volunteering to maintain the park please contact Matt Tyler at 360-385-9129 or email mtyler@countyrec.com. Thank you!

No Alcohol in North Beach Park
“In the State of Washington it is illegal to open or consume alcoholic beverages in a public place" (see Title 66.44.100 of the RCW). This law applies in all Jefferson County parks, campgrounds, and recreation facilities. Exceptions to this law can be granted by the Washington State Liquor Control Board (see Title 314 of the WAC) in the form of a banquet permit or a special occasion license for example. All proposals to serve alcohol at an event in a Jefferson County Park are subject to approval by Jefferson County. For more information please contact Matt Tyler at 360-385-9129 or mtyler@countyrec.com.

Heading to Glass Beach? Don’t Get Trapped by the Tide!
More and more people are getting trapped by the rising tide on their way to west to Glass Beach from North Beach County Park. It’s a long hike – better to leave plenty of time. Check the tide and know when to turn around. A rising tide can completely inundate the beach, forcing you to climb the unstable bluffs above to stay out of the (very cold) water. Several parties have experienced this not-exactly-fun situation during the pandemic. Search and rescue teams have spent time and resources including a helicopter and specialized technical rope teams plucking people from the sandy bluffs! New warning signs are in place but not everyone reads them. A summary of the most recent incident is below. Check the tide and stay safe on your beach hike to the West of North Beach Park!

“On the evening of Friday, April 30, Port Townsend PD was dispatched to a call of two women stranded in the area of North Beach while attempting to get to Glass Beach. The walkers contacted emergency dispatchers and said they could not get off the beach due to the high tide. JSAR was requested to assist, along with Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (with a drone to help locate the callers) and East Jefferson Fire Rescue. Law enforcement located the walkers in the area of Cook Street and 49th Street, and a citizen helped lead them to a passable route through the bluff. One of the women had sustained an injury to her ankle. A minor technical rope rescue was executed by the combined team of agencies from the top of the bluff to assist the two women up the route."

Shellfish & Water Safety
