Directions: Port Townsend. Follow Water Street east in to downtown PT, turn left on Madison Street by City Hall, field is straight ahead.

Full sized football field. Full sized soccer field. Full sized baseball field. Stadium with seating, roof, team rooms, showers, restrooms, maintenance shed, inground automatic irrigation system, concessions stand.

ATHLETIC FIELDS TEMPORARY CLOSURES: HJ Carroll, Irondale Community Park, and Memorial Field athletic fields closed Monday, Aug 25 (7:00 am) to Wednesday, Aug 27 (7:00 am) for herbicide application. ATHLETIC FIELDS ONLY.

  • Active Ingredient(s): MCPA (41.68%), fluroxypyr (4.17%), dicamba (4.17%)
  • Purpose: To control broadleaf weeds in the athletic fields, promoting more durable and better performing fields.
Re-Entry Interval: The treated area must be kept clear of all people and pets for 24 hours following the application.

Please do not enter the treated area until Friday, August 27, 2025, at 7:00 AM.

Memorial Field No Fee Public Open Recreation Rules
Program Purpose

The Memorial Field "Open Rec" program is a dedicated scheduled time for the general public to use and enjoy Memorial Field for open recreation or leisure (see allowed used section below) for no-fee. Using Memorial Field for open recreation will be enjoyable and will promote health and well-being. It will also enhance the sense of place and support the local economy.

General Operations
  1. The program is pre-scheduled. The schedule can change due to unforeseen circumstances. The current schedule can be found on this website in the calendar function or by searching events below.
  2. Maintenance can occur during the program, which could restrict uses. Please respect maintenance staff.
  3. A permanent sign is posted on the front walk-through entrance describing the program and listing the rules. 
  4. During open recreation the walk-through gates will be opened and a special sign or sandwich board will be put in place. The drive through gates will be shut.
  5. No vehicles are allowed to enter the field.
  6. The stadium restrooms will be open during the program.
Rules
  1. Animals are not allowed inside the gates of Memorial Field at any time*
  2. It is illegal to consume alcohol or marijuana in public in Washington State
  3. The following activities are not allowed: camping or sleeping, amplified sound or nuisance noise, metal detecting, drones or RC planes, bicycle riding, electric or motorized vehicle operation or any kind, skating or scooters, RC cars or toys, cooking & barbecuing, golf, or driving stakes into the field for any reason.

Recent Major Capital Improvements and Outstanding Maintenance
In 2010 a group lead by Rich Stapf and Roger Hall organized the donation of a turn key automatic irrigation system. Many private donors participated. The firefighters of East Jefferson Fire and Rescue volunteered to do the work. The irrigation system is fully functional and saves thousands of dollars per year in labor from hand watering. It creates more usable field time. Makes a healthier, more consistent athletic field. Thank you to all who participated in this donation.

In 2015 the entire roofing system and roof on the stadium was refurbished. The existing structure was repaired, painted, and brought up to the latest specifications. A 50 year steel roof was installed along with a new sound-system. 

In 2018 the 40 year old athletic field lighting system was replaced with a state of the art LED lighting system by MUSCO lighting. This system has world class field lighting with near zero light overspill or light pollution. The system is energy efficient.

Annual athletic field treatment by Pacific Sports Turf including aerification, overseeding, heavy sanding, and fertilizing have greatly improved the drainage and playability of the athletic field. The field can now stand up to much greater use. It can be opened earlier in the year, and kept open later in the year. 

Jefferson County takes pride in presenting the only athletic stadium in Jefferson County and the only public (non-school) athletic field in the City of Port Townsend.

No Alcohol in Memorial Field
“In the State of Washington it is illegal to open or consume alcoholic beverages in a public place" (see Title 66.44.100 of the RCW). This law applies in all Jefferson County parks, campgrounds, and recreation facilities. Exceptions to this law can be granted by the Washington State Liquor Control Board (see Title 314 of the WAC) in the form of a banquet permit or a special occasion license for example. All proposals to serve alcohol at an event in a Jefferson County Park are subject to approval by Jefferson County.
